Music videos

Music videos, A worldwide system to advertise music artists newly released songs or albums. The first music videos were in the 60's and this shocked the world that viewed them. However this helped both audiences and artist as the viewers could experience music in a whole different way and the artist could show themselves and be out there.Music videos are made with recorded footage of the artist performing their music in whatever way they wish too. Music artist usually have a director that decides how the video will turn out and what it will include.A music video is lower class compared to a full length film, But the same amount of effort goes into the production and making of the video , even though the length is minimal compared to a film. There are many conventions that come with music video depending on the genre.

Most commonly a rock or metal band would have a darker theme to them to represent their style and look. And perform the whole song within the video with instruments this is called a performance video.

Heavy metal: Machine Head 'Locust'

Whereas a R&B video would come across a whole lot different as , R&B artists tend to flaunt more than limit themselves to one look. But keep to the wealthy but tough look , with actual dance choreography used to entice the audience more. However most R&B artists like to use product placement within their video to help advertisers for more money.

R&B: Neyo 'Let me love you'

More so the pop genre likes to make their whole video look happy and exciting to entice their viewers. That also uses a beat that would be popular with a dance that may be easier to recreate compared to another genre , making it likeable.

POP : Lady Gaga 'Poker face'

My favourite Genre is all things that is not english. As i'm a huge K-pop and J-pop fan. Because there is more to the music as there is usually a storyline and awesome choreography.

K-pop: Shinee 'Sherlock' (Clue+note)

More K-pop : F(X) 'Electric Shock'

J-pop : RIP SLYME 'Dandelion'

J-pop:Utada Hikaru 'Prisoner of love'

However there are too major differences between K-pop and J-pop. K-pop (Korean pop) is all about the choreography. I have shown you 2 K-pops 'Shinee' and 'F(X)' . I wanted to show you one female group and one male. In both videos you can see that there is story and dance but not a lot of musicality.

This is what makes K-pop a whole lot popular thank J-pop (Japanese pop) .because J-pop is more about the music and voice. I showed you the group 'RIP SLYME' which is a whole lot up-beat than 'Utada Hikaru' but there is still a whole lot music than K-pop. 'Utanda Hikaru' has an amazing voice , and does a lot of music for the game 'Kingdom Hearts'.Her video has no dance or story its pure voice.

Also in Korea most of the musicians are stuck to a company. Both 'Shinee' and 'F(X)' are part of the highest earning company 'SM Town' and they don't get a lot of freedom because of strict regulations. Where as both 'RIP SLYME' and 'Utanda Hikaru' are self produced musicians.

But I think there are a whole lot more creative music videos out there. Especially Techno bands like 'Hadouken!' . They like to use a different range of different medias to create their art. However 'Haduken!' are really underrated.

Techno :Hadouken!-'That Boy That Girl'

More Techno: Hadouken! - M.A.D

And S'more :Hadouken! -'Turn the lights out'
