Music Video Ideas
- · 2 Extremes of Genres
- · Kids music – Techno Metal
- · Setting – Playground
- · Look – Child-like (Harujuku, Kawaii-desu, Lolita)
- · Lip syncing ‘Blood On The Dance Floor’(Unforgiven)
- · Act- pretends to be childish but performing song.
- · Props- Dollies, Teddy Bears, Toys.
- · Actors- Madeleine, Mason, Lucy, Me.
Using this Idea I can
reflect my like of many genres and make it somewhat a parody. I would like to
incorporate my like for the Harujuku/Lolita style (Japanese style to express
cuteness). I can also add a story line by using the title of the song
‘Unforgiven’ with a scenario like a child playing a game and another child
steals their toy and this child is now ‘Unforgiven’ .
- · Stop Motion Animation Idea.
- · Use dollies to act out a scene.
- · Song- ‘Bloc Party’-Flux
However the song is not really 'Lyrically Strong'.So I decided that the song 'Just Like A Pill'
by Pink. Because the first lyrics are " I'm lying here on the floor where
you left me" which fits perfectly with a doll being left alone in a
bedroom. And that fits perfectly.
More so I can change the story slightly. Because with the new song their is a new meaning. So I can use some stop motion to animate the real plastic doll. That has been left in this wardrobe, To be angry that its owner has left it alone for so long. And the doll comes alive to take revenge. And I would probably use the look of Harujuku.

Music videos
Music videos, A worldwide system to advertise music artists newly released songs or albums. The first music videos were in the 60's and this shocked the world that viewed them. However this helped both audiences and artist as the viewers could experience music in a whole different way and the artist could show themselves and be out there.Music videos are made with recorded footage of the artist performing their music in whatever way they wish too. Music artist usually have a director that decides how the video will turn out and what it will include.A music video is lower class compared to a full length film, But the same amount of effort goes into the production and making of the video , even though the length is minimal compared to a film. There are many conventions that come with music video depending on the genre.
Most commonly a rock or metal band would have a darker theme to them to represent their style and look. And perform the whole song within the video with instruments this is called a performance video.
Heavy metal: Machine Head 'Locust'
Whereas a R&B video would come across a whole lot different as , R&B artists tend to flaunt more than limit themselves to one look. But keep to the wealthy but tough look , with actual dance choreography used to entice the audience more. However most R&B artists like to use product placement within their video to help advertisers for more money.
R&B: Neyo 'Let me love you'
More so the pop genre likes to make their whole video look happy and exciting to entice their viewers. That also uses a beat that would be popular with a dance that may be easier to recreate compared to another genre , making it likeable.
POP : Lady Gaga 'Poker face'
My favourite Genre is all things that is not english. As i'm a huge K-pop and J-pop fan. Because there is more to the music as there is usually a storyline and awesome choreography.
K-pop: Shinee 'Sherlock' (Clue+note)
More K-pop : F(X) 'Electric Shock'
J-pop : RIP SLYME 'Dandelion'
J-pop:Utada Hikaru 'Prisoner of love'
However there are too major differences between K-pop and J-pop. K-pop (Korean pop) is all about the choreography. I have shown you 2 K-pops 'Shinee' and 'F(X)' . I wanted to show you one female group and one male. In both videos you can see that there is story and dance but not a lot of musicality.
This is what makes K-pop a whole lot popular thank J-pop (Japanese pop) .because J-pop is more about the music and voice. I showed you the group 'RIP SLYME' which is a whole lot up-beat than 'Utada Hikaru' but there is still a whole lot music than K-pop. 'Utanda Hikaru' has an amazing voice , and does a lot of music for the game 'Kingdom Hearts'.Her video has no dance or story its pure voice.
Also in Korea most of the musicians are stuck to a company. Both 'Shinee' and 'F(X)' are part of the highest earning company 'SM Town' and they don't get a lot of freedom because of strict regulations. Where as both 'RIP SLYME' and 'Utanda Hikaru' are self produced musicians.
But I think there are a whole lot more creative music videos out there. Especially Techno bands like 'Hadouken!' . They like to use a different range of different medias to create their art. However 'Haduken!' are really underrated.
Techno :Hadouken!-'That Boy That Girl'
More Techno: Hadouken! - M.A.D
And S'more :Hadouken! -'Turn the lights out'

Edwin S porter
Porter was one of the most earliest film editors that
ever lived. His work had influenced most editors after him. Without his
discovery editing would be a whole different story. Porter had discovered the
importance of cutting sections of footage to bring life to the film. The cuts
were done accurately so that he could change the angle in which the camera was
facing and how the story would continue.
D.W
Griffiths
Griffiths
was American film director that wanted to enhance Porters techniques by adding
more than just cuts. He wanted to add more methods of editing; he was known for
his powerful skills in film and had changed the way film had been executed. He
had invented the used of the close up, scenic long shot, and crosscutting,
and he collaborated with cinematographer Billy Bitzer to create fade-out,
fade-in, and soft-focus shots. Furthermore without his work film today would
not be the same without these fundamental editing methods.
Thelma Schoonmaker
A american female film Editor. Known for being the main editor for Martin Scorsese
One of my favourite films is a Scorsese ,'Gangs Of New York' . The film was well cut and edited to perfection.
In this clip 'Jenny Everdeen' ( Cameron Diaz) is being suspected by the 'Butcher' (Daniel Day lewis). And continues his show but a whole lost riskier than before. You can see the fear in Jennys eyes when she does realise this is no longer just a show this is now very dangerous. The butcher continues to throw the knives at her and then were are exposed to a reaction shot of the audience and the main character 'Amsterdam Vallon' (Leonardo DiCaprio) . The whole scene has a shot reverse shot between 'Jenny' and 'The Butcher' . There is one shot in particular that stood out the most which was when 'the butcher' asks 'jenny' to take of her neck lace and he threw a knife at it. The camera dropped to the floor where the necklace was and went straight up to 'Jennys' face to show her reaction.
She had worked for Scorsese for over 40 years, she shows true dedication to her work and her director. She had said "You help the director bring all the hard work of those who made the film to fruition. You give their work rhythm and pace and sometimes adjust the structure to make the film work ‑- to make it start to flow up there on the screen. And then it's very rewarding after a year's work to see people react to what you've done in the theater." The quote is very inspirational as she shows she is committed to her work and tells us the importance and the fundamental need to the editor. Scorsese had also said that he needed her in his films “Thelma,is the woman I trust.”
The films she was most famous for were 'Raging bull','Taxi Driver','Goodfellas' and 'The Departed'. As they are still very popular films and most of them have been nominated or have won many awards. She was know for her techniques such as her innovative manipulation of time and radical use of freeze frames, juxtapositions, jump cuts, and vari-speed. These were used in most of Scorsese's films to make his dark films very edgy and bloodthirsty.
Schoonmaker had been influenced to do film as her husband was in-fact a director Michael Powell (Peeping Tom ,The red shoes). At the age of 72 Thelma is still editing films and still at the side of Martin Scorsese.
